WHO YOU ARE:

We are looking for a VP, Controller to build and lead a modern accounting organization. Reporting to the Head of Finance and serving as a key member of the Financial Leadership Team, this leader will own the close, set the operating standards for the function, and build the team and systems required for the company's next stage of growth.

This is a player-coach role. The right person knows what a high-performing accounting function looks like because they have built one before. They will lead the team day to day, stay close to the work, and create the discipline, processes, and accountability that make the numbers faster, cleaner, and more useful to the business.

The VP, Controller will also be a critical partner to FP&A and leaders across the company, ensuring financial reporting is not just accurate, but useful for better decisions.
Just as importantly, this leader will define how AI changes the accounting function. They will identify where automation and AI can materially improve the close, controls, reporting, productivity, and quality of work, then turn those opportunities into operating practice.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

External Stakeholder Relations:

  • Collaborate with external auditors and tax consultants to maintain strong relationships and ensure compliance with reporting requirements

Tax Management:

  • Lead the tax management function by managing an external tax advisory firm

  • Conversant in federal partnership tax returns,, state sales tax, multi-state employment, and nexus questions

  • Lead the 1099 process

Audit Management:

  • Lead the annual audit process by managing the audit firm

  • Manage the annual audit as the primary day-to-day contact; coordinate PBC lists, schedules, and issue resolution

Transformational Projects:

  • Making things automated and efficient while strengthening our internal controls

Financial Reporting and Month-End Close:

  • Manage all month, quarter, and year-end closing activities, overseeing the full schedule and task delegation to ensure timely delivery of financial statements to the EVP, Finance & Accounting.

  • Lead intercompany and multi-entity consolidations within NetSuite, maintaining the structural integrity of the chart of accounts and subsidiary mappings.

  • Author technical accounting documentation and oversee compliance for ASC 606 revenue recognition and ASC 926 content cost management, including necessary impairment reviews.

Team Mentorship:

  • Experience growing and mentoring senior accounting level professionals.

HOW YOU WILL SUCCEED:

  • Deep understanding of accounting principles, financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting techniques.

  • Capability to think critically and develop comprehensive financial strategies aligned with business objectives.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively present complex financial information to senior management and stakeholders.

  • Experience in any of the following industries preferred but not necessary: media, entertainment, live events, subscription businesses, or content/film cost accounting.

  • Examples of using AI to improve accounting processes will be considered a differentiator.

  • Comfortability in a dynamic, fast-paced entrepreneurial environment

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent experience preferred

  • Deep working fluency in NetSuite or a similar ERP — comfortable in the chart of accounts, subsidiary and consolidation setup, saved searches, and reporting, not just consuming outputs from it.
  • Demonstrated leadership managing a Big 4 audit

  • Familiarity with complex structures and partnership taxes (multi-entity, K-1s, allocations)

  • 6+ years experience with demonstrated increasing responsibility
